Midfielder Catarina Macario will be replaced on the 18-player United States Women's National Team roster in the Paris Games by alternate Lynn Williams.

Coach Emma Hayes confirmed the change, pending IOC and FIFA approval, was due to persistent right knee inflammation keeping Macario out of practice.

"I'm absolutely gutted for Cat," Hayes said, who said Macario would return to Chelsea FC.

The U.S. team faces Mexico on Saturday in a tune-up for its Olympic opener on July 25 against Zambia.

Defender Emily Sams is the new alternate on the USWNT roster.
