For years, lemon water has been positioned as the ultimate slimming drink. But it turns out that adding another ingredient allows for even better results. It's chia seeds. 

Suggested by American nutritionist doctor Daryl Gioffre, this simple recipe has gone viral on social media. For good reason, it promises spectacular results in terms of weight loss. 

A detox drink rich in nutrients

As we have just indicated, the recipe is very easy. Simply mix plain water, lemon juice and chia seeds. Lemon strengthens the immune system thanks to its high vitamin C content. It also has detoxifying and digestive properties. 

Chia seeds, for their part, are an exceptional source of fiber, omega-3 and minerals such as calcium and magnesium. In addition, they swell when mixed with water. As a result, they quickly fill the stomach and trigger a feeling of satiety once ingested. This is how chia seeds reduce cravings and regulate appetite. 

A slimming effect to put into perspective

The benefits of this drink are undeniable. It purifies the body, boosts immunity, improves digestion and helps you lose weight. The omega-3s present in chia seeds even have virtues for cardiovascular health. However, experts emphasize that it is not a miracle solution! Drinking lemon water with chia seeds is not enough on its own to eliminate excess pounds. 

It remains essential to adopt a healthy lifestyle, with a balanced diet and regular physical activities. In addition, it is strongly recommended to consume this detox drink in moderation. Chia seeds tend to cause bloating and stomach aches when consumed in excess. 

Some precautions to take

If you are new to chia seeds, start with small amounts (1 teaspoon per day) to allow your digestive system to adapt. The recommended daily dose is 15 to 20 grams, or 1 to 2 tablespoons. To avoid discomfort such as bloating, it is advisable to hydrate chia seeds well before consuming them. Also, don't forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day to protect your digestive system. As a reminder, although lemon chia water is beneficial in many ways, it is not a substitute for a healthy diet.
